When it comes to things like magazines, understanding your audience is extremely important. One of the single most crucial elements of creating a magazine is understanding your audience—their average age, education level, gender, language, culture, and religion. It's crucial to keep the audience in mind since doing so will increase an author's impact. Knowing your audience helps you decide how to organize your writing, what language and vocabulary to use, what kind of content to include, and how to go from one issue to the next.



Demographics & Psychographics: Cosmopolitan

Age: This cover would most likely attract an audience with ages 20-34

Gender: This magazine cover would most likely attract women readers because of the color coding, more stereotypically feminine topics (such as hair and skin products/routines) and the well known model and actress, Zendaya, who is a woman herself, and more likely to attract other women who are fans of her.

Ethnicity: The main consumers of Cosmopolitan are usually white females.

Main Image: The main image features Zendaya, who smiles into a camera wearing a red blazer, skirt and heels. This may help to appeal to women who are very into fashion and beauty topics and want tips or advice to become better or more informed in them.

Interest: The target audience for Cosmopolitan is women who are interested in fashion, apparel, shopping, feminine topics, and beauty.

Color Scheme: The color scheme of this magazine is almost entirely pink, with supporting tones of reds, yellows, white, and black.

Audience Psychographics: Customers of cosmopolitan magazine perceive themselves as belonging to many communities as well as the greater globe. Therefore, people communicate and use contemporary technologies. Cosmopolitans are adventurous in their purchasing habits and have a diverse range of consumer preferences. These same customers have a significant impact on others in their social groups by spreading information about the perceived value and quality of products. These customers are drawn to brands that are seen as cutting-edge and fashion-forward. They also like brands that are known for having excellent brand reputations and that are representative of the values of Cosmopolitan.


Demographics & Psychographics: Vogue

Age: This cover would most likely attract an audience with ages 17-35

Gender: This magazine cover would most likely attract primarily women readers because of the reputation of the brand (Vogue) which is known for beauty and fashion, and because it features actors from the romantic comedy drama, True Beauty.

Ethnicity: The main consumers of Vogue are usually white females.

Main Image: The main image features Hwang In Yeop, Moon Ga Young, and Cha Eun Woo. They all lean on each other and Hwang In Yeop and Moon Ga Young stare into the camera, while Cha Eun Woo stares off. This may help to attract women who are fans of and have seen the show, True Beauty, which they play main characters in.

Interest: The target audience for Vogue is women who are interested in fashion and apparel, shopping, entertainment, popular brands and people.

Color Scheme: The color scheme of this magazine is completely black and white, with gray gradients.

Audience Psychographics: Vogue is the most read luxury fashion publication in Russia, with over 800K readers. Vogue is the most popular magazine among customers of high-end department stores; 63% of them read it. 48% of Vogue readers make two or more purchases of apparel and shoes each month. 71% of Vogue's readers are employed, with 76% being high income and above average and 56% of them being business owners, managers, specialists, and professionals. Vogue consumers are usually high end people who are social and always keep up with current trends and fashions. They have large social circles and hold themselves high and with dignity. They like to keep up with fashion trends and new stars rising to fame.


Audience Profile Using my findings from the first section of research, I can base my own target audience goals from what I've gathered during my research on the first two magazines and their audience, demographics, and psychographics.

Gender:





I am a sociable and high end person. I always keep up with trends and have a large group of friends. We like to shop for name brand items and go out for trips a lot. We all enjoy beauty and apparel topics and hope to find new ways to improve our style more.

My friends and I are 19-35 years old. We like to shop for name brand items, pretty clothes, and beauty products.







I'm a young and freshly graduated woman who works at a high paying job. I have a high income and can spend my money as I please on things that I like.

Race: Black

My friends and I are AB social class experiencers who live in the moment, are sociable, and are into fashion and beauty trends.


It's important to stay up to date with trends and fashions


My friends and I should constantly treat ourselves with nice products

Catering your work to your audience will help your article effectiveness overall. If you misunderstand your audience, the impact of your work will not be as successful as you hope, which is why it is extremely important to keep these things in mind.
